CCP is pleased to announce that, effective immediately, all currently subscribed Macintosh users can participate in an open beta of the Premium graphics EVE client on our test server Singularity. This is the culmination of over a year of effort on the part of development teams at both CCP and Transgaming and we are extremely happy to see EVE running in all its splendor on the Mac OS. The recommended technical specifications for players wishing to run this Premium client are:
OS: OS X 10.5.6 ò CPU: 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo ò RAM: 1GB ò HD SPACE:6.0 GB ò NETWORK: 56k modem or better Internet connection ò VIDEO: ATI Radeon X1600 128Mb ò DVD-ROM: 2 speed DVD reader or greater required
To install the client, please download the client from this location. We recommend that you rename your already installed/existing EVE Online application to something like ôEVE Online TQö prior to installation, as the process will create a new EVE Online copy in your applications folder and could potentially overwrite an existing installation of EVE Online. The beta Premium graphics client will automatically connect to the test server Singularity. A list of items for which CCP and Transgaming welcomes feedback will be added to this thread. Any problems or issues should be reported to the developer team using a bug report.
We also recommend reading the FAQ and info thread for Singularity: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=46836 And please do bear in mind that Singularity has different rules regarding player behaviour, information for which can be found here: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=253187 |

Current Known Issues List:
1. Rainbow explosions in battle - Caused by a driver issue and resolved in OSX 10.5.6 2. Rainbow geometry in on stations and ships 3. ATI R500 Hang 4. Small geometry flicker on ships. 5. Full screen flicker just after reappearing through stargate. 6. Black screen on startup - Caused by a driver issue and resolved in OSX 10.5.6 7. "Clicking Sound" after double click 8. Flickering Bloom effect
What we would like you to test:
1. Client Performance - Fly missions, go mining, shoot each other in the FFA's in FD-MLJ. Keep an eye on your fps rates and let us know about situations where the framerate drops to unacceptable levels.
2. Graphics Bugs - Flickering textures, wrong textures, broken textures. If you see one, please screenshot it and attach the picture to a bug report. Include a description of what you were doing at the time the error occurred.
3. System Hardware - Please experiment with client settings and let us know in this forum thread of the combination of resolutions and settings that result in best performance for you. We are working on a table that will provide recommended system and game settings for as many Mac hardware variations as possible and all input regarding this is welcome. |

im werry disapointed :(
What resolution are you running the game in? What are your game settings? Have you tried adjusting game settings? In which situations are you getting 15fps or is that a constant fps rate regardless of game situation?

Originally by: zoolkhan i dont bother - just a macbooc (2.4ghz, but unsupported) just tiger and not the fancy leopard.
OSX 10.5.6 includes numerous improvements to the operating system and the device drivers that are integral to the smooth running of Premium. That is why we recommend using that version of the OS. EVE Premium will run under Tiger but without the aforementioned fixes you should not expect performance on par with a machine running the latest version.
By "unsupported" do you mean that you are running an Intel GMA950 graphics chipset? If so then I would not expect Premium to run well at all. The classic client would run but under OSX it's shared memory is limited (if running Windows I believe the chipset can get more memory assigned to it, which does help running EVE). There are also the issues that the GMA950 chipset has no hardware geometry processing and that the chipset is not shader model 3.0 compatible. The Trinity 2 engine which runs Premium graphics was designed for shader model 3.0 compatible graphics chipsets. If the graphics card in your Mac does not meet the minimum hardware requirements we cannot guarantee that Premium will run. And in fact we have not officially supported running EVE on a GMA950 chipset even with the Classic client.

Originally by: Dr Sheepbringer Well this one should perform BETTER than the current classic. I'll try in on my macbook air to see if there any hope of proper performance on older macbooks.
The Macbook Air is equipped with an Intel X3100 chipset which is more capable than the older GMA950. For one thing it supports hardware transform and lighting, is faster than the GMA950 and on the Macbook Air it has 144Mb of shared memory under OSX as opposed to the GMA950's 64Mb. Most importantly the X3100 chipset supports DirectX 9.0 and shader model 3.0 features. It is simply better able to handle high-end graphics and I would be very interested to hear how the Macbook Air handles the client.

For those of you wondering about the continuation of the Classic graphics client, Zulupark just published a new devblog which outlines the strategy we will be following in the future. What this means for all players, Mac users included, is that you will have more options to fine-tune the performance of EVE and get the most out of your machine. We will be working closely with Transgaming in the next couple of weeks to make sure this Premium Lite client works.

If you have .dmp files please attach them. Even if part of the data is garbled, it is better than no crash data at all and I am sure one of our boffins can make use of it.

Originally by: Opertone As mentioned before image, side panel and labels have problems, they look like white snow. I have random diagonal stripes and tearing across the screen, they come and go, it looks annoying.
Which version of the Mac OS are you running? Are you running any other applications in the background? What resolution are you running the client at and what are your client settings?

Originally by: Verite Rendition I haven't had a chance to load the beta client yet, but just so we're clear Whisper, the EVE Premium client is the full (SM3) beta client, correct?
Correct. What you are testing at the moment is the full Premium client designed to take maximum advantage of SM3. The Premium Lite client is in the last stages of development and we should be releasing that for public testing in the next couple of weeks.
Originally by: Dr Sheepbringer It's a good thing they have two months to fix all these issues, cos in two months classic goes bye bye
We had our weekly status call with Transgaming today and they're already looking into some of the reported issues. Stability and performance remain our top priority with graphics quality following so close behind that the space between those two agenda items won't accept even the most glitzy of credit cards. |

For those of you experiencing difficulties connnecting to Singularity and not receiving a patch, we're working on getting things running again. Someone got a bit overzealous in deployment and we're going to either revert back to the old server code or get a Mac patch built and deployed as quickly as we can. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Singularity has been restored to a previous build. You should now be able to log on normally with the Premium beta client.

Ok, I'll make a note to bring up the issue shadows with the Transgaming devs as that does seem to something that's affecting all users, not just specific chassis or graphic cards. Note: This does not mean we don't look at issues affecting specific versions of Mac, but something that's affecting everyone will probably get a higher priority than isolated incidents.
In other news, we've managed to trace and fix the cause of the memory leak. There's also some work going on to address some texturing and shader handling issues which should result in better stability or performance (it might even fix the problem with switching on shadows). Once that gets checked in we will try to get an updated beta build out as soon as possible. This probably won't happen before the weekend but we'll try to get it out as soon as possible. |

Casqade (See? He's not dead!) pointed out in this thread that we're having a few problems getting the Mac Singularity client ready. It is being worked on and we should have something ready for download later on today.
